Significance of output:

This paper analysed separately the components of sea level and their interactions in the English Channel for significant trends before determining changes in extreme sea level. Long-term changes in extremes broadly follow changes in mean sea level. Importantly, changes in storm surges over the 20th century in the English Channel where opposite to those observed in the North Sea. This paper was cited in the IPCC’s 2012 SREX report and in the forthcoming Fifth Assessment Report, demonstrating international significance.
