Significance of output:

Ever-increasing oil prices and concerns over the environment have led to a renewed interest in Contra-Rotating propellers as an alternative more efficient powerplant to turbofan engines in short haul flights. However, their broadband noise emissions are significant and may cause their introduction to be halted. This paper, presents, for the first time, a semi-analytical model for predicting the broadband noise radiation, which are being used at Rolls-Royce to provide strategies for its mitigation. A trade-off is also presented in which broadband noise emission are balanced against a loss in aerodynamic performance.
