Significance of output:

This work developed a new way of modelling complex systems. This has been exploited by the university as a spin out company called Plexus, which attracted £500k of investment funding. This very successful company (projected turnover 2012 over £1.5m) now has customers including Rolls-Royce (who have bought site wide licences), Boeing, Airbus, Raytheon, US navy, NATO, GE and other international aerospace companies. The company plans to recruit three more staff in 2012.
