Significance of output:

Simple lumped parameter models for metallic springs, e.g. as used in the aerospace industry, or rubber isolators are inaccurate at higher frequencies. The isolators exhibit resonances due to wave effects, reported as early as the 1950’s. The paper provides a simple and experimentally validated impedance description, amenable for subsequent use for high accuracy applications, such as optical communication. For the end user or design engineer, the simple formulae enable the limitations of a particular isolation mount to be known and also quickly assess what might be the maximum response when such a mount is used in practice.
