Significance of output:

As a result of this publication, Barney was invited to contribute to a BBC2 documentary, Prehistoric Autopsy: Neanderthal, shown on 22nd October 2012 as one of a series of three programmes on early hominids which attracted almost 2 million viewers on the night. The programme featured synthesised speech samples generated from our computer models of the Neanderthal vocal tract. Barney was also invited to record a podcast on the subject of Neanderthal speech capability for the Natural History Museum’s new Treasures Gallery. The podcast was linked to the Neanderthal skull exhibit and is available from the museum website (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/galleries/green-zone/treasures/podcast/index.html).
