Human-Like Adaptation of Force and Impedance in Stable and Unstable Interactions
The paper presents the first robotic controller able to adapt to unstable interactions typical of tasks with tools, as humans do (described in my papers in Nature 414: 446-449, Journal of Neuroscience 28: 11165-11173). This biomimetic controller was analysed theoretically by my RA, Yang, and demonstrated in a successful implementation on industrial robots by my PhD student,Ganesh, at the German space agency (DLR), under our £3.2M EU-FP7 VIACTORS project. The work was recognized by the 2011 King-Sun Fu Memorial IEEE Transactions on Robotics Best Paper Award (http://www.ieee-ras.org/awards-recognition/publications-awards/69-awards-recognition/society-awards/70-ieee-transactions-on-robotics-king-sun-fu-memorial-best-paper-award).
