Additional information

This article contributes to debate and practice across craft-related industries. The research questions were previously posed in an invited international conference keynote (2008, ‘Craft as a Renewing Force of Culture’. In ‘Craft Research – Knowledge Through Making’. International Conference, University of Helsinki) and a commissioned professional practice journal (‘A Pervasive Craft Ethos’ - Studio: Craft and Design in Canada Magazine, Ontario Crafts Council, Canada, Fall/Winter 2009). The research process engaged with wide ranging secondary source analysis across craft-related industries. The conclusions were used to formulate predictive models of craft influence and economic benefit, in the light of emerging technologies and practices.
