<23>The theoretical formulation presented in this journal paper (impact factor: 3.28) is of a new Bezier Curve shape approximation paradigm, which is complemented by a rigorous performance analysis on a variety of video objects. The flexible rate-distortion criterion provides, for the first time, a trade-off within the formal Bezier Curve framework between admissible bit-rate and geometric shape distortion. This technique has recently been successfully adapted for capturing 2D object outlines in planar imagery.
