The effects of lateral meniscal allograft transplantation techniques on tibio-femoral contact pressures.
Meniscal injury is the precursor to most knee osteoarthritis, the leading cause of knee joint replacement. This basic science study mechanically quantified the effect of meniscus and meniscus replacements. It led to a series of studies (currently four papers, two PhDs, and three Proof-of-Concept grants with a combined value of £150k), thereby resulting in a novel implant design (patent WO2012168715) licensed to a spinout with €200k investment. The work resulted in three invited book chapters and an invited contribution representing the first biomechanics content in Gray’s Anatomy (40th Edition, 2008).
