Additional information

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness, but inadequate models limit therapeutic development. We provide the first evidence that mice are excellent models for the pharmacology of human intraocular pressure (IOP) regulation, with IOP reduction being the key aim of glaucoma drugs, opening new avenues for glaucoma drug screening using mice. This publication led to our model system being reproduced with our assistance in several glaucoma research centres (Mayo Clinic, Vanderbilt , Duke), led to industrial funding from US pharmaceutical company Allergan (£100k), and a 2-year licensing contract (£32k) to an ophthalmic company Acucela for glaucoma screening.
