Additional information

The research reported in this output led to the design of a single fibre supercapacitor which is sufficiently flexible to be incorporated into textile material to enable the design and production of so-called ‘smart’ clothing. These supercapacitors can also be combined with photovoltaic fibres to produce a textile for electrical energy generation and storage. A patent for the design has been filed (“Powerweave” IT/N29917 March 2013) with Southee as a contributing inventor.

This publication resulted from research undertaken on the EU funded FP7 project “Powerweave - Development of Textiles for Electrical Energy Generation and Storage “, a €4.3 million grant with 13 international partners.

The paper was granted a Royal Society of Chemistry HOT article award in June 2013 http://blogs.rsc.org/cp/2013/06/24/this-weeks-hot-articles-4/
