A multi-technique study of supra-molecular aggregation, bringing together experts in each technique. High resolution AFM imaging experiments of the different confirmations (performed by S Connell) provided the crucial factor in identifying the species present, and resolving the sub-unit structure. The power of the microscopical approach demonstrated in this paper led directly to a successful EPSRC application by Turnball, Connell and Ranson.
