Additional information

This paper reflects on affect and emotion as they relate to poetics, her/histories, in twenty-first century museums. It reflects on the ways in which collections of material culture hold diverse meanings and how ideas are communicated to audiences over time and space, but might be challenged through imaginative activity. Focusing on key objects in the 2007 temporary art installations at the V&A highlights masculinities at work, which are considered through a feminist lens. Theoretically, texts of Lorde, Ahmed, Spivak and Butler highlight agency, creativity and the importance of facilitating audiences’ imaginative effort and critical thought in museums
