Additional information

Contrary to traditional belief, it has been shown that roughening of conjunctional surfaces with textured patterns can mitigate the undesired effects of frictional losses. However, optimisation of texture geometry and patterns has not been ascertained, leading to a plethora of ad hoc testing. This paper provided the first comprehensive multi-objective optimisation analysis of lubricated slider bearings with mechanically engineered (textured) surface(s). The approach was adopted for piston-ring/cylinder liner contact showing desired practical outcomes, which can be verified by Dr David Adams, Senior Technologist at Ford: DAdams@ford.com
