Additional information

The refolding of protein derived from inclusion bodies is a key process step where optimisation traditionally demands significant resources and time. The paper represents the first example of the application of automated microscale technology to the study of refolding of inclusion body proteins and demonstrates how quantitative process information can be more rapidly obtained using sub-millilitre quantities of often precious material. A generic and novel sequence of analytical assays is proposed that enables the identification of favourable conditions to be detected early in process development. The approach has since been taken up by Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies (Dr John Liddell, john.liddell@fujifilmdb.com).
