Additional information

This paper describes a new novel method of measuring fuel concentration using electrical sparks. This research compares the radical and species dynamics generated from both electrical and laser sparks. This approach, based on electrical sparks, has potential to be used under extreme temperature and pressure conditions encountered in internal combustion engines. The method has potential to be incorporated in commercial engines, using the standard spark plug, for real-time combustion quality diagnostic and control. This work was a joint effort between UCL, University of Cambridge (Prof E Mastorakos, em257@cam.ac.uk) and University of Patras - Greece (Prof Stelios Couris, ‎scouris@physics.upatras.gr).
