Additional information

This paper reports joint research between UCL and Lavrentyev Institute of Hydrodynamics, Russia for over 15 years involving several projects. This particular project is jointly supported by the Royal Society (2005/R2) and Russian Academy of Sciences (Prof. A. Korobkin) and focuses on the very short period during a fluid/structure impact, involving extreme loading. Included are the effects of both the fluid compressibility and structure elasticity and their coupling. The results shed new light on fluid flow and structural deformation and the fluid-structure coupling during violent collisions.
