Additional information

This first attempt using titanium oxide (a waste material) as a photocatalyst for the remediation of tributylin-polluted sediments led to an environmentally friendly, low cost but effective approach. Further development was funded by a Strathclyde Links award with Greensolutions and British Waterways. The results, as yet unpublished, have showed that ex-situ washing effectively removed pollutants and that the treated sediments were rendered safe for return or reuse (e.g. in building materials) (r.quigley@ecomeshsystems.biz, Olivia.Lassiere@britishwaterways.co.uk).
