Calculation of a lower bound ratchet limit part 1 – Theory, numerical implementation and verification
This paper presents a new capability in a state-of-the art direct method for ratchet analysis, with an accompanying paper demonstrating practical application. The method is referenced and adopted in the internationally recognised R5 structural integrity assessment procedure (and announced in the R5/R6 Newsletter). The associated software and users guide have been implemented by key industries, including EDF Energy (david.tipping@edf-energy.com) and Rolls-Royce (Michael.Martin@Rolls-Royce.com). Outputs from this research work led to a new EngD project (NE102, http://www.dalton.manchester.ac.uk) starting from 1st Oct 2013 and funded by the EPSRC nuclear EngD centre and EDF Energy.
