Additional information

Theoretical and empirical models for wave impact loads, based upon experimental data are described. Wave kinematics and rate of change of momentum were used to create empirical equations that were validated against the model tests. The work lead to the HSE document “Wave slap loading on FPSO bows” (www.hse.gov.uk/research/rrpdf/rr324.pdf‎) and the contribution by Barltrop to the SAFEFLOW(G3RD-CT-2000-00271) joint industry and EU funded project report. Safety cases for offshore platforms refer to these documents (Standing:BMT; Gaspar.Guzsvany@atkinsglobal.com). Consultancy work has been undertaken on wave impact forces on fixed and floating platforms and invited lectures given in Korea (jeompaik@pusan.ac.kr) and Norway (torgeir.moan@ntnu.no).
