Additional information

Absorptive Capacity shows how manufacturing SMEs acquire and use Six-Sigma knowledge for creating and sustaining competitive advantage. By critically analysing 18 UK SMEs, using semi-structured interviews with various levels of management, an innovative analytical framework is presented that for the first time combines Six-Sigma and absorptive capacity. The research sets the foundation for exploring organisational learning approaches, guides “best-in-class” practice for project selection and execution, and received support from the CEO of the Institute of Six Sigma Professionals (steve@lighthouseconsultants.co.uk): “these ‘informal’ routines which affect the success of LSS in SMEs are worth further consideration and offer an excellent insight”.
