Additional information

This paper provides a processing solution for the transformer industry using high-viscosity ester liquids to impregnate insulating pressboard blocks. As a consequence, ester-filled transformers can achieve full impregnation thereby preventing discharges or failure in service. The work has contributed directly to the first 132/33 kV 90 MVA ester-filled transformer by Alstom Grid (contact details available) and results adopted by CIGRE technical brochure 436 (contact details available). This work has also been used by Cooper Power Systems (DOI: 10.1109/TDEI.2009.5361579), University of Cantabria (DOI: 10.1016/j.epsr.2013.01.007) for transformer manufacture, and North China Electric Power University for nanofluids research (DOI: 10.1063/1.4730778).
