Additional information

Selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) technique offers tight harmonic control for advanced power electronics converters of modern power systems. The main challenge with SHE-PWM is that the conventional solution (i.e. switching angles) search methods are sub-optimal. This paper proposes hybrid real coded genetic algorithm based technique for obtaining the optimal solution even in the case of a large number of switching angles. With this method, the coauthor (Agelidis, tel.:+61(0)293856546) won the First Prize (€50k) of Electrica Awards International Innovation contest (organised by: AREVA T&D) for optimum control of voltage-sourced converter based high voltage direct current systems.
