The author was invited by Prof Steve Shaw of DSTL (ID_in_audit_file@dstl.gov.uk) to present the results of this paper at an internal research seminar at DSTL Porton Down in May 2012 and at the 2012 DSTL Centre for Defence Enterprise showcase event (London, March 2012). The value to DSTL is in cost efficient impact resistant materials. The research also led to an invitation to join a UK-China collaborative project that has secured funding (CNY289k) to investigate impact perforation of polymers, initiated by a 12 month academic visit to CUED by Dr Y. Dong, Associate Professor, Beijing Institute of Technology (ID_in_audit_file@bit.edu.cn).
