Ora pro nobis

The research underlying this book was on-going from 1997 until 2008. It is a fully interdisciplinary work integrating the study of a wide range of types of material cultural artefacts with liturgical and devotional texts to produce a ‘clear and comprehensive treatment of its subject, which is so important for the history of Western Christendom’ as described in a major review in Speculum. Each chapter could stand alone as a journal article as each focuses on a common iconographic intercessory type, suggesting new ways of interpreting its subject in the light of the material in which it is contextualised.
