Additional information

In 2015 the predicted per-unit UK average price for vacuum cleaners is £78. This price is driven mainly by expensive magnets in the electric drive. Use of reluctance-drives reduces the per-unit cost by 10% as they are magnet free. Reluctance-drives are inherently load-dependent limiting their penetration into the market. The paper -a key outcome of a PhD project funded by the Malaysian Government- introduces a stabiliser circuit that handles all load conditions. The significance of this work is underpinned by Dyson who actively supports successive work by providing hardware components (Tuncay.celik@dyson.com, 07875232849).
