Additional information

Damage progression models using standard finite element packages are significantly used in the aerospace industry but there is no systematic analysis of how well the various models predict damage and final failure. This paper compares failure and damage prediction from 3 dimensional degradation models and experimental data for the important case of a supported-pin-loaded joint. The development of the experimental test method was carried out with Airbus (UK) Ltd. The paper helps establish which models are robust and provides valuable data for the aerospace industry where these methods and joint types are prevalent.
