Evaluating Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing Using Videotaped Activity Scenarios
The author made a substantial contribution to the design of the study including data collection, analysis and write up.
This chapter describes the development of a innovative discussion tool i.e. Videotaped Activity Scenarios (VAScs) that places the user at the heart of the design process rather than solely as a tool to evaluate with. The VASc method allows individuals to discuss their own experiences, beliefs and expectations. These real-world descriptions are re-enacted, filmed and then used as a tool for further discussion. VAScs have been used as a main methodological approach in: ESRC E-Society grant RES-341-25-0046; the Biometric Daemon; a Cross-Council New Dynamics of Ageing Project and in collaboration with the KITE project at Newcastle University’s Culture Lab.
