Visual information search in simulated junction negotiation: Gaze transitions of young novice, young experienced and older experienced drivers
This paper is significant in the field of Human Factors and safety because it advances knowledge of drivers’ information requirements at junctions. An understanding of where and how drivers search for information at junctions will aid the development of assistive devices such as collision avoidance systems which ultimately will reduce accidents at junctions. Older drivers are overrepresented in multiple vehicle accidents at junctions and the number of older drivers on the roads is increasing therefore this work will be of benefit to the road safety sector and to society in general. This study has interfaculty involvement with the department of Psychology and also the Lancaster University.
