Additional information

Concertos and Overtures for London re-establishes the reputation of Pepusch as one of the foremost concerto composers of his time in England.

Rawson began the project by establishing an overview of primary sources in Europe and North America, and determining a representative variety of works through archival research. He then prepared all scores and parts from the original manuscripts, and led the rehearsal and recording process as ensemble director. Particular attention was paid to choice of instruments and ensemble size to reflect the occasions for which the works were intended. Further research included the examination of eighteenth-century German literature that confirmed Pepusch’s early reputation, which informed Rawson’s liner notes for this recording.
