Additional information

Funded by the EPSRC, this new and unique experiment was designed to examine the dynamic behaviour leading to the failure of full-size beam-to-column connections in steel-framed buildings post the 9/11 catastrophe. The unique design of the testing facility allowed both tensile and rotational failures of connections from quasi-static to fast dynamic rates. This is the first paper from this original research. The new evidence includes reduced ductility than previously thought, which may influence future building design & assessment. Huang designed the full experimental setup and a FE platform for comparison purposes before he moved to UoP.
