Additional information

This paper, published in internationally-leading biomedical engineering journal, uses our rigorous experimentally-validated model to quantify detailed flow structures and shear forces in surgical bypasses involving blood vessels at the below-knee region. This approach forms the basis of our A*STAR-SERC (Singapore) grant (S$1,077,673; #0221010023), and which subsequently led to an EDB (Singapore) Proof-of-Concept Project award. It asserts the importance of optimising the geometry of surgical reconstruction and supports the benefits of developing bypass grafts with predefined shapes. The work was highlighted in an invited commentary in a leading international surgical journal (Giannoukas, giannouk@med.uth.gr).
