Significance of output:

Transport for London (TfL) has recently implemented the largest GPS-based system in the world for bus priority at some 2000 traffic signals, benefiting 8000 buses and their passengers. This paper analyses and illustrates how the Authors’ have developed and applied a unique simulation model of this application to bus corridors in London to help TfL to install and operate this system efficiently. This resulted in guidelines for implementation, including GPS location requirements and quantified the economic benefits from this £37 million investment. Methodologies and results presented have potential worldwide application.
