Excitation temperature determination of an arc formed over an ice surface using optical emission spectroscopy
This paper was published in the top journal of IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation. Ice accretion on outdoor insulators may cause drastic reduction of their electrical insulation strength, sometimes resulting in flashovers and power outages. From physical viewpoint, information about the state of this kind of discharge is lacking. In this original paper the result of rigorous experimental work employing optical emission spectroscopy were published on calculation of excitation temperature which is one of the most important parameters for plasma state characterization. The published results are being used to improve the existing dynamic models for predicting flashover.
