The study investigates the efficiency of financial institutions in five Southeast Asian countries after government reforms of the financial sectors. The results show that efficiency has significantly declined over the period 1998–2004 indicating that the post-1997 crisis restructuring had a negative influence on bank performance, it helps policymakers in reviewing regulations that aim at fostering financial sector performance.
