Significance of output:

<13>This paper develops mathematical methods in non-equilibrium thermodynamics that set future benchmarks for the analysis of the dynamics of complex models of synaptic plasticity.

As the methods are technical and complex, their absorption and adoption by the community will take many years. The paper's significance cannot be measured until this process of assimilation is under way.

Clear, penetrating and exact analysis is performed of complex, non-Markovian models of synaptic plasticity.
