This paper is the first to demonstrate that AI techniques can be used to recognise sketches of Euler diagrams that are a widely used visualization method. The research is now being extended by Jamnik at the University of Cambridge, who is developing sketch tools for spider diagrams (an extension of Euler diagrams that include graphs). The IEEE Symposium on Visual Languages and Human-Centric Computing (VL/HCC) 2011 had an acceptance rate of 33%. At VL/HCC all papers are fully reviewed by at least three reviewers. VL/HCC is A rated in the Australian ERA list.
