Additional information
The discovery of a conducting interface between two perovskite insulators has stimulated huge worldwide interest. This paper reports the first delta-doping experiment at this interface; our ability to quench the conduction enabled us to demonstrate the presence of two types of carrier, supported by other groups, e.g. [Phys Rev Lett 107(2011)056802] where the majority low-mobility electrons are confined to the interface. Cited in major independent reviews [Science 327(2010)1607; Surf Sci Rep 65(2010)317]. Has led to further Cambridge work: [Appl Phys Lett 97(2010)072110; J Phys: CM 23(2011)305002; J Phys: CM 25(2013)175005].
