Buckley shared fully with the co-editor, George Kassimeris, in the selection and editorial work: he wrote approximately 75% of the 'Introduction' (pp. 1-7), contributed one single-authored chapter of c.7,000 words ('Land warfare: attrition and manouvre', pp. 89-105) and edited the sections on 'Strategy and Conduct of War' (pp. 11-105) and 'Aspects of Modern War' (pp. 109-237), representing approximately 50% of the volume.
