Additional information

<02> Originality: We developed the concept of minimal manageable virtual appliances (MMVA) to update and configure virtual machines on the cloud node during deployment. We also elaborated an algorithm to reduce the size of manageable virtual appliances to have MMVAs.

Significance: MMVAs exclude dependency of deployment on changes in IaaS systems and virtual appliance repositories. They can further decrease the deployment time between 15-20% by modifying the content of virtual appliances during deployment. MMVAs are used in several academic clouds in research projects.

Rigour: We formalised the MMVA concept. The paper also presents the formal description of the MMVA optimisation algorithm.
