<02> Originality: This is the first paper in literature describing how volunteer desktop grids, cluster based grids and clouds can be integrated into a large powerful infrastructure to significantly increase the number of computing resources in a cost-efficient way. It also shows that the tail problem of volunteer desktop grids can be eliminated by using small size clouds.

Significance: The paper proposes a solution to an important problem in designing large distributed systems by interconnecting desktop grids, cluster grids and clouds.

Rigour: Performance measurements show the viability of the proposed integration method. Results published in a leading, peer-reviewed journal.
