<09>Originality: Component-oriented software development has been attracting more attention for building complex distributed applications. In this work, we present the experiences gained from building a process-driven biometric identification application that uses grid infrastructures via the Grid Component Model (GCM).

Significance: GCM supports autonomic management of notable parallel composite components which is exploited in our application to ensure real-time identification of fingerprints. This is taken into account in our design, development and implementation of the application by means of autonomic GCM components.

Rigour: Experimental results and lessons learned confirm the advantages of the autonomic GCM framework and the process-driven approach.
