Double-weighted statement

This monograph (250pp/95000 words) is the primary output of 5-years’ research, representing 50% of Foxhall’s research in this REF cycle. Research required unpublished collections from fifteen archives in Britain, Ireland and Australia (c.300 naval surgeons’ medical journals, c.200 emigrant diaries; thousands of pages of colonial, prison, naval records, and related correspondence concerning convict and emigrant voyages to Australia from Britain/Ireland during the earlier nineteenth century; forty years of Parliamentary Papers). Its key arguments break new conceptual ground by drawing together disparate and extensive existing historiographies including maritime, environmental, medical, colonial, penal and migration histories of Australia, Britain and the Atlantic.
