Centrifuge and numerical modelling of ground-borne vibration from an underground tunnel
Significance of output:
This paper presented the outcome of a first-time use of Centrifuge Testing for modelling ground-borne vibration from underground tunnels and the comparison against numerical modelling. Prior to this work, Centrifuge testing has been extensively used for static geotechnical problems and for small numbers of dynamic problems with applications other than environmental noise and vibration. The work showed good matching of Centrifuge testing results against those from numerical modelling. The work highlighted the main challenges and set the ground for a potential new area of applications for Centrifuge testing.
