Biodynamic response of the seated human body to single-axis and dual-axis vibration: effect of backrest and non-linearity
Significance of output:
Lack of understanding of biodynamic response of seated human body with back support to multi-axis vibration results in inappropriate seat and vehicle ride design that can leave hundreds of thousands of drivers and passengers exposed to excessive whole-body vibration causing discomfort and health problems. To fill this gap the authors systematically conducted intensive studies and provided first hand useful data of apparent mass of human body in seated position with backrest contact for vehicle seat and ride dynamics researchers and design engineers. The data are applied by Jaguar and Land Rover Car Ltd. in developing their XK-series cars.
