English abstract

Sharing all tasks at all stages, the editors organised the initial 2007 conference, provided an introduction and secured a publication grant. The introductory essay co-authored by Biskup [50%] provides a conceptual framework for reconsidering the “heritage” of monarchy after the abolition of monarchy in Germany, asking what traces the institution of monarchy left in German societ after the 1918 revolution. The volume uncovers a surprisingly important legacy in fields as diverse as the Federal Republic’s constitution, property law, museums and the heritage industry, and the media.
