The paper is devoted to the implementation of new high-resolution computational algorithm for modelling of zonal jets in oceanic flows. The contribution of Dr Karabasov was to develop the core computational methodology that allowed to obtain converged solutions for very high Reynolds numbers. The preliminary work for this paper helped to secure a prestigious Mary Sears Visitor award enabling Dr Karabasov to conduct his modelling research at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, MA. The work also led to securing major new NERC funding under the "Turbulent Oscillator" Grant (NE/J006602/1).
