Integration of CO2 Capture and Mineral Carbonation by Using Recyclable Ammonium Salts
This paper presents a new approach to capture and store CO2 using recyclable ammonium salts. The work is the output of a EPSRC Challenging Engineering Award (£1.1m, EP/F012098/1). This work has opened a new research area and well funded opportunities, including an Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) project (http://www.eti.co.uk/news/article/eti_study_ccs_by_mineralisation) that conducted a techno-economic assessment of this mineralisation technology for distributed sources. This resulted in Prof Maroto-Valer giving a keynote lecture at the Fourth International Conference on Accelerated Carbonation for Environmental and Materials Engineering (http://cit.kuleuven.be/aceme13/).
