Contributor to 'The Wilde Things', curated exhibition by Evelien Bracke
Draper’s work selected for 'The Wilde Things' belong to her Apertura09 series. This series exploits electroforming techniques to create three-dimensional artefacts and enamelling on copper. The resultant pieces resemble ceramic until held. The deceptive impression instigates an extreme intimacy with the object through its tactile qualities. Z33 is based in Hasselt, Belgium. Its mission is that "Z33 is a house for contemporary art. Since 2002, Z33 has been organising projects and exhibitions that encourage visitors to see everyday things in a new way. A unique laboratory and a meeting place for experimentation and innovation, this is the place to be when it comes to unique exhibitions of contemporary art and design.” Bracke’s introduction to the exhibition states the following: “The intense and intimate relationship between jewellery and its wearer is unique in our material culture. Twenty-five contemporary pieces of jewellery from Mrs. Wilde's collection together create a fictional story. Together the story/book written by Oscar van den Boogaard, the jewellery and a film made by Manon de Boer tell the story of Mrs. Wilde's collection of contemporary jewellery and the personal memories and meanings attached to them. In this narrative exhibition, jewellery as 'material memory' is interwoven with life. With 'The Wilde Things', Z33 explores new presentation models for contemporary jewellery in the context of the wearer and within a narrative framework. It also takes a critical look at current developments within the jewellery discipline, and how it has evolved since the 1960s to become an autonomous, artistic, and reflective design practice.
