The EU’s target for aircraft noise reduction is 50% before 2020, which sets noise reduction at the forefront of aerospace and transport research. This work was funded by EPSRC (GR/T06629/01), and partially by the Rolls-Royce/TSB SILOET Jet Noise project. It explores the validity of numerical methods for chevron jets with higher frequency noise components. The limit of predictable frequency was found to be strongly linked to azimuthal spatial grid resolution. It also provided the important simulation database for further progresses on hybrid acoustic modelling. Contacts: Professor Dame A.P.
